Those who recall the riots that erupted in northern Nigeria after the general elections of 2011 will be excited to know someone immortalized those events in literature history even if in fiction. Dami Koka, the main character in To Live Again is one of the NYSC Corp members posted in a rural community where they had to work with INEC during the election and subsequently become the major target of rioters.
The author started out quite slowly painting the picture of the village, Damakuli in Bauchi that after reading this book, if you're blindfolded and taken to Damakuli, you can tell it. We follow as Dami settles into the sexy Damakuli. But all hell breaks loose shortly and in an instant, your heart is pounding through the rest of the book. The book is written in a diary style so we get to see Dami's daily entry as she tries to record dates in Hausa which she is happy to be learning.
To Live Again is without doubt a smoothly paced adventure, Ray Anyasi while showing off his poetic skills comes at his literary seductive best.
