In the ancient kingdom of Udi depicted by Ray Anyasi in Sorrows of Udi, everything that could go wrong in any ancient society is going horribly wrong. A war is looming, a curse is manifesting, a young witch is on the loose and an older one is plotting a revenge on the people that banished her to the forest 4 decades ago, a prince is plotting to overthrow his father from the throne, and an ambitious witch doctor is trying to exploit the situation of the kingdom to obtain unprecedented spiritual powers. To make matters worse, the chief priest who should lead the call on the gods is instead overseeing a scandalous abuse of shrine virgins which in itself attracting the wrath of the gods.

But interestingly, the multi-plot story converges on the young princess, Mmaeze who has just been made the goddess princess according to custom and she is expected to collaborate with her fellow gods and solve all Udi's Sorrows. But Mmaeze has just found a rekindled romance with returnee warrior, Izuchukwu and for all she cares, Udi can burn to the ground if what it requires is for her to sacrifice her love.

Just reading through the first few pages will show the reader why this book has had this much literary acclaim as an international bestseller and translated into several international languages.
