GEEK POP-UP is a pop up marketplace created by Bookause for comics, books and other geek merchandise. It seeks to keep the arts and creative space vibrant with constant contact and interaction between comic publishers, authors, artists and their audience in a relaxed, fun and energetic ambience. Being primarily, a marketplace, priority focus is given to measures that attract buyers, encourage exhibitors and trigger sales on the floor.
The event is attended mostly by men and women in the age range of 17-40. Hosted in the upscale and central spot of the Lagos metropolis, Victoria Island, it attracts guests from all over Lagos and across the country. The December 2024 edition is expected to be attended by 2000 guests.

ABOUT BOOKAUSE
Bookause is a UK based comics and books distribution company also deeply involved in growing the global geek community via events. Bookause was the official coordinator of the Book Zone of Lagos Comic Con between 2018 and 2022. Bookause is currently the organizer of the exhibitions section of the Rayany Creators Fest which holds in major cities across the UK.

Confirmed panelists include New York Times Bestseller, Michelle Hodkin, Ray Anyasi and Peter Daniel (CEO of Peda Comics Studio), Ibrahim Ganiyu (ICStudios), Eghosa Imasuen (Narrative Landscape/CANEX).

Over 50 young and geeky cosplayers will take the platform to show off their passion and love for their favourite comics, film or gaming characters in our cosplay competition.
PRIZE: #50,000. Consolation prizes for runners up.

GEEK POP-UP FLASH FICTION CONTEST (In Partnership with Rogue Ink)
Fiction writers will compete for a grand prize in the Flash Fiction Contest, writing a 300-500 words flash fiction from a given prompt. Winner will be decided by a combination of Judges’ decision and a final vote by online and live votes on the day of event.
PRIZE: $150 for the winner. Consolation prizes available for runners up.
TIMELINE
November 15: Participants Registration Opens.
November 30: Registration Closes.
November 30: Writing Prompt sent to participants and submission opens.
December 3: Submission closes and judging begins.
December 15: top 5 shortlist announced.
December 21: Online voting begins and ends. In-Person voting at event begins and closes. Winner announced.

Voting Rules
Online voting will take place on the Bookasue Facebook Page. While In-Person voting will happen live at the Geek Pop-Up event at Lagos Oriental Hotel. A vote online carries 1 point while an In-Person vote carries 5 points.
The top 5 contestants will be invited on stage at the event to read their Flash Fiction before the audience. After the reading, guests will cast their votes for the best Flash Fiction. Votes will be counted live and recorded. At that same time, online voting will end.
